3. SAVE the completed form.

New in 2018-2019: Optional permission to perform a background check for adults
For the safety of all, background checks are required for all adults who work with children. New on this year’s registration form is a place for two adults in the household to authorize Saint Andrew’s to perform a background check.
This authorization is optional, but will save time and effort for any adult who may want to volunteer with youth this year

Please note: If you have a registration form with the date "August 2014" (or more recent) at the bottom saved on your computer, you can submit that form. Open it and update the school year, "Today's Date", and make any other necessary changes.
(If you submit a previous year’s form and wish to volunteer for youth activities, you will need to complete a separate background check authorization form. Contact the church office or Director of Discipleship Ministries Pastor Drew Yoos to get the form.)

After completing/editing the registration form,
SAVE it to your computer. Then either:
     - email the form to info@SALChome.org
or
     - print and return the form to Saint Andrew's, in person or by mail

Do ONE Thing

To grow faith in the youth of Saint Andrew’s
Every time a child is baptized at Saint Andrew’s, we make a promise to that child. We promise to support and pray for the child in his/her new life in Christ and to help sponsors and parents in bringing that child to faith.
And here is your chance to live out the promises you have already made by doing ONE thing to help the discipleship ministry of this congregation.
You are invited to add your name to the “Do One Thing” list. And whenever we are in need of a caring adult to fill in for a one-time role, you might get called in to save the day! For most youth events, all we need is an extra body in the room. Some things you might get called for include:
~ Going with youth on a service outing
~ Assisting with the annual Christmas program
~ Working in the kitchen for a potluck meal
~ Helping out at Vacation Bible School for a day
~ Gathering supplies for a children’s event
~ Filling in for a week as an Affirmation of Baptism/Confirmation (ABC) mentor
~ Attending a youth’s sporting event/concert at school
~ Helping set up for a mission trip fundraiser

And if we call and you say, “Yes!” then you have done your one thing and won’t be called again (unless you want to be).
This is a way for the entire congregation- whether you have kids in the program or not- to be involved in the faith formation of our youth. I hope everyone will consider how much playing a small part in the discipleship ministry can impact the faith of our youngest generations for years to come.
If you want to get on the list, contact Pastor Drew Yoos with your name and updated contact information and your name will be added!

Sunday Church School

Sunday Church School classes meet during the Sunday morning Discipleship Hour, at 9:45 am.
The Sunday Church School ministry provides faith-learning experiences for children from 2 years of age through the 5th grade. We are currently using the SPARK curriculum by Augsburg Fortress for most of the classes. The Bible stories are selected to tell the salvation story over a two year period. Each lesson also provides activities for parents and children at home. The classes also use a Lutheran Enrichment piece as a preparation for their Affirmation of Baptism. These materials look at one aspect of Luther’s Small Catechism, Lutheran Worship, and other related topics.

Adult Education

The goal of the Adult Education program is to offer a variety of opportunities for personal spiritual growth and continued discipleship for our adult membership.
Small Group Bible Studies, including:
Early Sunday Morning Bible Study
Tuesday Morning Men,
Tuesday Morning Bible Study,
Women's Evening Book Study.

We also offer multiple classes during the Adult Discipleship Hour at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings to meet the variety of needs and interests in our adult membership.

Affirmation of Baptism Ministry: Affirmation of Baptism/Confirmation (ABC)

Affirmation of Baptism Ministry classes meet during the Sunday morning during Discipleship Hour, at 9:45 am. All students meet in 302/Fellowship Hall South.

September 30 - October 28
:  "Introduction to the Old Testament"
November - December:  "Ministry of Service"
Jesus invites us to follow him in ways of serving our world. Jill Nichols-Hicks will lead a course that focuses on what service looks like both at church and in the world around us.

Our faithful teaching team continues to challenge our young people (in 6th through 8th grade) as they prepare for the Affirmation of their Baptism. The students study the Old and New Testaments, Martin Luther, the basic tenets of the Lutheran faith, liturgy, and discuss questions of ethics and related issues of faith.

Kids Communion Class

In Holy Baptism we promise to support parents as they introduce their children to the faith journey, and get ready for the child’s participation in the Lord’s Supper. The Kids Communion Class gives families an opportunity to share together an understanding of the Meal by using “The Welcome Table” and “A Place for You,” two books designed as instruction for young children. The age at which children first come to the Table is a personal, family decision made in partnership with Pastor McEachran. Our mission is to assist and support the parents when that time comes.

Faith Stepping Stones

Faith Stepping Stones provides a way for parents and the church family to bless children again and again as they grow and learn more about God and God’s love for us. We are all caretakers of the faith…faith in relation to the temporal blessings (God’s provision while we are here on earth as reflected in the gifts of Bible, catechism, stoles, quilts, prayer pillows etc.) and the eternal blessings of everlasting life with God. Faith Stepping Stones also assists parents in fulfilling the promises made at baptism to:
1) teach the Lord’s Prayer and Ten Commandments;
2) place the Holy Scriptures in the hands of their children; and
3) provide instruction in Christian faith so the children may lead a holy life.

2018-2019 Schedule of Faith Stepping Stones classes and gifts

High School

A special opportunity for high school youth (grades 9 to 12) is CrossWalk on Sunday mornings during the Discipleship Hour at 9:45 am. Here they are able to build on their foundation of faith following the Affirmation of Baptism. The High School students meet for Bible studies, discussions on current issues, a look at other faiths and religions, and a variety of topics of interest to students during their high school years. On the last Sunday of every month, they meet for Oasis, a time to rest, color, and enjoy a movie.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School at Saint Andrew’s is usually held in July for children from 4 years of age through those entering 7th grade in the fall. The students are given an opportunity in a relaxed atmosphere to experience God’s Word in drama, singing, games, puzzles and crafts. Students in grades 5-7 are part of a VBS Camp experience, traveling each day to a different environment that relates to the story in some way.

Room 212

Room 212 is open on Sunday mornings as a place for quiet conversation over a cup of coffee. It also serves as a conference room for a variety of meetings and the Tuesday Morning Men’s Bible/Book Study.

Cradle Roll

The Cradle Roll ministry supports and encourages new parents as they nurture their children, birth to two years of age, by sending newsletters which focus on physical, social, and faith development. Saint Andrew’s is working to grow this ministry within Christian Education by reaching out to parents from the point of baptism until they enter the Sunday Church School.
